I’ve got a thing for ‘Tips’ books. I bought this one when I was visiting MIT, in Boston. Check out more books from My Library.

LED Gloves
I filmed with these LED gloves for The Gadget Show. I’m not sure if they’ll make it into the new series - I’ll let you know - in the meantime I thought I’d blog them. For something as simple as black gloves with light emitting diodes on their fingers, they are enchanting. Check out kooky french online store Lux et Deco for more info (they also sell LED Throwies - which I feel rock.)

The Swarm
I’ve just been to Martha’s Vineyard, where the movie Jaws was filmed. You can see a video of me ’shark hunting’ filed under Dot.Robot. This book, The Swarm is a bit like Jaws, but, as the name suggests, the monsters of the deep in this oceanic thriller move in packs. The book is also a warning, a very convincing projection for a number of ways the natural world might react to what we’re all doing to it. It’s a doorstop of a novel, but it’s an easy and exhilarating read.

Chromatic
I’m just lovin’ Google Chrome. The world’s best known search engineers have applied their ’simple but sophisticated’ ethos to the problem of browsing the net and come out looking shiny. I particularly like the amount of screen-estate Chrome leaves free. My favourite features include ‘incognito mode’ and the ‘dynamic tabs’ which enable you to grab the tab of a website and move it out into its own window. Here’s hoping they Mac-up very soon. If you’re on a PC you can try it for yourself.

Dot.Robot
What is Dot.Robot? It’s my first book! It will be available in bookshops in February 2009, published by Puffin. It is aimed at 11+ readers (but I think readers as young as nine may still enjoy it!) Dot.Robot tells the story of a very clever twelve year-old boy from South London, called Jackson Farley. He is brilliant with numbers and mad about computer games. His life changes when he receives a mysterious instant message and is pulled into a world of international intrigue and high-tech robots.
I will be posting regularly with news of the run up to my book’s release and with my thoughts and observations as I embark on writing the second book in the Dot.Robot trilogy. Feel free to comment and share your thoughts.
The picture is of me and my postman celebrating the delivery of the first finished proof-copy of Dot.Robot.
